On March 3rd, 2019, the 3-day workshop “INTANGIBLE CULTURAL HERITAGE & EXPERIENTIAL TOURISM”, which was leaded by Prof. Jane Gottelier, Detao Master of Fashion and Knitwear, came to a successful end. This workshop & lecture was held by Detao & Studio Gottelier and HAITC of Hainan University.
On February 28th, as the opening of the workshop, Prof. Jane Gottelier delivered a keynote lecture “intangible cultural heritage & experiential tourism” at Lecture Hall. 2nd floor, Social Science Building, Hainan University.
Zhao Hong, Director of the Comprehensive Department of the Tourism Development Committee of Hainan Province, with other interested fellow colleagues attended and listened to the lecture. Prof. Jane Gottelier shared her abundant professional experience of fashion industry with more than 100 teachers and students in the lecture. In the speech, Prof. Jane Gottelier vividly explained to students How to link Hainan's intangible cultural heritage to Li Brocade Weaving through experiential tourism.
During the last half-hour interactive question-and-answer session, teachers and students of the Hainan University actively asked Prof. Jane Gottelier questions, and put forward the questions they were interested in, such as how clothing design could promote the development of tourism.
At the end of the lecturer，Prof. Jane Gottelier presented students with her autographed poster and FAD year book.

“Intangible Cultural Heritage & Experiential Tourism” Creative Advanced Workshop.
During March 1 to March 3, Professor Jane Gottelier took “Intangible Cultural Heritage & Experiential Tourism” as the topic in Creative Advanced Workshop; told Students to explore how to use the intangible cultural heritage in Hainan to carry out experiential tourism and upgrade tourism grade. She also analyzed international experiential tourism and studied existing experiential tourism course and travel routes in China and overseas.
Professor Jane Gottelier leaded students to visit Hainan Jinxiu Zhibei Industry Co, Hainan Provincial Museum Li Culture Center and the Studio of Dan Chen (Hainan Guoxing Middle School Li Brocade Inheritor). Mr. Chen Dan was invited to explain the textile, dyeing, weaving and embroidering skills of Li Brocade to the students, and demonstrated the skills of how to weave Li Brocade.
After three days workshop, students integrated Professor Jane Gottelier’s design concepts into their innovative designs and created their final collections which were highly praised and appreciated by the Prof. Jane Gottelier. On the last day workshop, students put their design work on the storyboard in groups and gave a presentation under the guidance of Professor Jane Gottelier.
This Creative Advanced Workshop is a workshop that combines Industry-University-Research. Ms. Guo Kai, Chairman of Jinxiu Zhibei, Ms. Chen Dan, the inheritor of Li Brocade, and Director Chen Pei of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Center of Hainan Province were invited to the site to watch students’ reports and made comments. Mr. Guo expressed his appreciation for students' works and hoped the excellent works of students could be made into products to sell to the public. At the end of the exhibition, Prof. Jane Gottelier awarded completion certificates to all students who completed this workshop.
