As we all know that the glorious Phagmodrupa Dorje Gyalpo, an emanation of Buddha Krakucchanda, is the highly revered root guru of Lord Jigten Sumgon, who said, “the silver body of Phagmodrupa’s small statue inside my meditation hat has never separated from me.” Moreover, Lord Jigten Sumgon took care of the main seat of Phagmodrupa, the Densatil Monastery. It is well-known in history that two main seats existed: the upper seat Drikung Thil and the lower seat Densatil.
Although we have been commemorating the Maha Parinirvana of Marpa and Milarepa, until now, special commemorations have yet been officially hosted for either Gampopa or Phagmodrupa. In order for us to receive the stream-like pure nectar blessings of the Kagyu lineage’s Four Pairs and Eight Singles, we will start to commemorate the Maha Parinirvana of the glorious Phagmodrupa this year. I have informed His Holiness, the Drikung Kyabgon Chokyi Nangwa, regarding this plan, who also consented to this arrangement.
As it is said in Chakrasamvara’s Domchung, “Abandon all other offerings, perfectly practice the Guru Yoga, as it pleases the Guru who knows all, the supreme primordial wisdom will be obtained.”
We shall all wholeheartedly and delightfully celebrate the Maha Parinirvana of glorious Phagmodrupa by offering whatever we have.
