An 18-year-old gunman opened fire Tuesday at a Texas elementary school, killing at least 19 children and a teacher as he went from classroom to classroom, officials said. The attacker was killed by law enforcement.
The shooter Salvador Ramos worked the day shift at a local food chain Wendy's, and "kept to himself mostly," CNN reported Tuesday, quoting a manager at the restaurant.
A former classmate of Ramos said the gunman texted him photos of a firearm and a bag full of ammunition days before the shooting, according to CNN.
Ramos was "taunted by others for the clothes he wore and his family's financial situation," the report quoted the classmate as saying.

U.S. President Joe Biden asked the nation on Tuesday to stand up to the gun lobby and "turn pain to action" following the deadly shooting at the elementary school that killed at least 19 children and two adults in Texas.
"As a nation, we have to ask when in God's name we're going to stand up to the gun lobby, when in God's name we do what we all know in our gut needs to be done."
"I am sick and tired of it. We have to act. And don't tell me we can't have an impact on this carnage." Biden said in emotional remarks from the Roosevelt Room of the White House.

The average age of the killers was 33.5, though the youngest was a mere 11 years old, according to an analysis of 128 cases from 1982 to 2022 conducted by Mother Jones magazine, which created an open-source database documenting mass shootings in the U.S.
The shooting has again shown that the recurrent and deep-rooted problem of gun violence in the United States is aggravating.
