The $200 million A loan agreement was signed by The Private Sector Operations Department of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Minsheng Financial Leasing Co. Ltd. (MFL) on 16 July in Beijing.

ADB will help roll out environment-friendly buses and promote green public transport in China as part of a $400 million financing package for MFL.

ADB’s financing for MFL will be used to finance the leasing or purchasing of green buses, including electric bus batteries.

These buses should either be energy-efficient and new-energy buses or buses running on cleaner fuels. At least a third of the A loan from ADB will be focused in the central and western regions in China.

The financing package will also include a $200 million B loan—to be funded by commercial cofinanciers—to help MFL finance green vehicles, as well as batteries and charging stations for electric vehicles.

Apart from ADB’s assistance, the Global Environment Facility has provided technical assistance to strengthen the capacity of bus operators.

ADB has been actively supporting leasing in China to help overcome the constraints for investing in green public transport and has successfully implemented a $275 million clean bus leasing program in recent years.

LafargeHolcim’s UK company Aggregate Industries has won a four year contract to deliver pavement solutions to Highways England. The total value of the works is estimated to be in excess of GBP 500 million. 

Under the contract, Aggregate Industries will deliver asphalt and cement bound works on Highways England's Regional Investment Programme.Highways England, which operates, maintains and improves roads in England.

Over a 30 month period, Aggregate Industries will create in excess of 20 miles of new, multi-lane carriageway using local primary and secondary aggregate supply sources. 

The project will require the supply and installation of 700,000 tonnes of asphalt and 500,000 tonnes of cement bound granular material.

The new announcement continues LafargeHolcim’s recent success in the UK, following the selection of Aggregate Industries to exclusively deliver the surfacing works for England’s largest road improvement project, the A14 from Cambridge to Huntingdon.

According to the BBC, some of the world’s biggest celebrities have lost millions of Twitter followers after the company cracked down on "locked" accounts.

US singer Katy Perry, the most-followed user on Twitter, and Lady Gaga lost about 2.5 million followers. Barack Obama went down 2.1 million.

Twitter said it had taken the decision due to its "ongoing and global effort to build trust". It follows renewed scrutiny over fake news and users on social media.

The head of the company’s legal team, Vijaya Gadde, said that most accounts would only lose around four followers as a result of the new measures. But she warned that more popular accounts would "experience a more significant drop".

Twitter argued that the recent move was aimed at building users’ confidence and reflected the fact that follower counts are "a visible feature" on the platform.

American Airlines(AA) announced that it is taking the next step to reduce its impact on the environment through its initiative to reduce the amount of plastic used onboard its planes and in its lounges.

Starting this month, AA will eliminate straws from its lounges and instead serve drinks with a biodegradable, eco-friendly straw and wood stir stick. AA will also begin transitioning to all eco-friendly flatware within lounges.

In November, change is in the air when the transition from a plastic straw/stir stick that is usually offered during onboard beverage service changes to a stir stick made of sustainable and environmentally friendly bamboo. With these changes, American will eliminate more than 71,000 pounds of plastic per year.

AA’s onboard environmental sustainability efforts go back to 1989, when the airline's flight attendants started the industry’s first onboard recycling program. AA also transitioned away from plastic foam cups to paper cups in 2015.

Through this program, American recycles hundreds of thousands of pounds of aluminum per year, with proceeds going to The Wings Foundation, a charitable organization administered by active American Airlines flight attendants to assist fellow flight attendants in times of need.
