In the run up to the Burger Cup (May 20 and 21 from 11am-8pm at Galaxy Soho, for early bird tickets click here) we'll be bringing you semi-regular round-ups of all the latest burger news around town, including deals, new openings, and more.
The curtains are drawing on the Common Burger residency at Hatchery and this week is your last chance to get your chops around one of their tasty and creative burgers. We'll be sad to see the stout, bacon, and cheese burger go. To send Common Burger off in style, they are offering daily deals, which are as follows:
Wednesday: buy-one-get-one-free burgers 7-10.30pm (valid with the purchase of any drink)
Thursday: 50 percent off the Beach As Bro burger (beer-battered fillet of New Zealand hoki, lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickles, tartare sauce), making it RMB 30
Friday/Saturday night: From 7pm onwards, buy a cocktail or house mixer and get a free side.
Of course, where one burger falls in Beijing, another will surely take its place. This week we discovered Meat Up, a small store in the new China World Mall development serving simply grilled Australian Angus and wagyu beef. The concept is pretty simple: you choose the type of steak you want – priced per 100g – and they grill it up for you with nothing more than salt and pepper and a salad on the side.
But this blog is about burgers, not steak, and thankfully Meat Up also satisfies in that regard with a patty made out of wagyu beef for RMB 42. The bread is provided by Opera Bombana and they have Opera head chef Marino D'Antonio on board, so while we haven't tried it ourselves yet we have pretty high confidence in the quality. Definitely one for people who are more interested in the meat that goes into the burger than all the fancy trimmings.
As mentioned in EAT this week, Migas have just launched their "Dar La Brasa" rooftop barbecue, running every Sunday during May. Of course, it wouldn't be a barbecue without burgers and Migas are serving up a bacon cheeseburger topped with roasted onions, cheese, bacon, and sweet chipotle mayo for RMB 60. The burger is served soft pain au lait buns (literally milk buns) from local baking duo The Bake Shop.
