Beijing Wants You to Stay Up Late and Spend Your Money

Good news, night owls: Staying up late is no longer uncivilized (unlike some other behaviors you should be aware of). In its efforts to spur the consumer economy, the Beijing Bureau of Commerce has resolved to make the summer of 2019 a summer of late-night fun.
As part of the "Night Economy" programs, many of the city's hotspots will be open later than usual to encourage party lovers, both foreign and domestic, to stay out longer and spend more cash.

Some of the extended hours that we now have to look forward to include:
Bars and restaurants that had been previously told to close at midnight are now allowed to stay open into the wee hours. Those include the many barbecue joints on Gui Jie, which can now stay open as late as 4am, while the beer gardens of Alishan Plaza in Qianmen can keep pouring until 2am.
Several of Beijing's busiest museums have extended their weekend hours for the summer, including the National Museum, Museum of Natural History, and the National Art Museum, which are now open until 9pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Remember to take your passport.
Some parks will be open later as well, beginning with the Temple of Heaven which will start to offer night tours soon.
Additionally, as we previously reported, Lines 1, 2, and 7 are extending their weekend hours to accommodate people staying out later, which is good news for any of us looking to patriotically spend our hard-earned cash and then get a cheap ride home.
