Voting in the 2020 Beijing Burger Cup Now Open!

Burgers are big business in Beijing, and the time has come once again to say which should claim the burger spoils. How? By using your greasy little fingers to cast your all-important vote in The Beijinger's annual Burger Cup!

This year, we're launching the poll at the onset of our superhero-themed Beijing Burger Festival (which runs from today until 9pm on Sunday! Grab your tickets at the gate for RMB 30 – don't worry, they are not sold out!). Once you get your fill, an even more important duty awaits: voting for your favorites.

This marks our tenth Burger Cup throwdown, and it's up to you to help determine which burger brand claims the ultimate bragging rights. This year, our tourney once again sees a tumultuous change in the brackets.

For one, nearly 1 in 4 of last year's Top 100 burgers have ceased to be since last year's Burger Cup, including Royal Stacks, Cannon’s Burgers, Caravan, The Bookworm, Fatboy’s, Biteapitta, and Grinders.

But while the dead shall be fondly remembered, there are also plenty of new burgers on this year's ballot to stuff our faces with the likes of Shake Shack, That One Place, Sliders by Henry, Lucky Las Vegas, World of Beer, and Prodigy Brewpub joining the race.

Eat Before You Vote

We’re first asking you to train your palate. The fun begins this weekend at our annual Burger Festival where you will have more choices than you can possibly fit in that stomach of yours. Come all three days to try as many as you can.

This is a contest we do not take lightly. We do everything in our power to ensure the ultimate outcome of this exercise – an authoritative list of Beijing's Best Burgers – is both fair and reflective of the wonderful selection we have on hand. So you too should cast your ballot with responsibility.

How Voting Will Work

The 2020 Beijing Burger Fest (Sep 18-20):

Put your sampling into overdrive. Come out tonight, Saturday or Sunday (or all three days). This will be your chance to check off the spots you have yet to try – we'll have more than three dozen to choose from.

After you have had plenty of time to sample burgers, it's time to put them to a vote. Our fist-round ballot will feature the Top 100 or so contestants spread into four brackets, and you will choose which ones deserve a spot in the next round.

There is nearly a week's worth of meals between now and when the first round of voting closes, so it would not be a stretch to think a reasonable foodie could expand their burger horizons by sampling at least 12 new choices without growing too weary (or unable to fit into one's normal trousers).

• Round of 32: Wednesday, Sep 23, 3pm

• Sweet 16: Monday, Sep 28, 3pm

• Elite Eight: Monday, Oct 12, 3pm

• Final Four: Friday, Oct 16, 3pm

• Championship Round: Monday, Oct 19, 3pm

• Beijing's Best Burger crowned: Thursday, Oct 22, 4pm

You'll note that there's a nice long break between the Sweet 16 and the final 8, so you can have yourself a fantastic Oct 1 holiday AND go out and try all 16 finalists.
