Cut the chit-chat and gather around to learn the latest about everyone's favorite super-app in our ongoing column, What's New WeChat.
Note: New functions roll out slowly, and some phones may not have yet received the updates discussed in this article.
On Android, long-press the chat and press hide. Then confirm that you want to hide the chat.
On iPhone, swipe right on the chat to reveal the options and press hide, then confirm that you want to hide the chat.
To use this function, go into the chat options (the three little dots at the top-right corner of the chat) and tap Remark. Simply enter the alternate name, and there you have it.
Your alternate name will be displayed as the primary name of the chat, but when you tap into the chat you’ll still be able to see the original name under it.
The original name will still be visible, but your custom name will be prominent
