Several SLT Bars Say Vaccine Proof Now Required for Entry

Several Sanlitun venues sent notice last night to their patrons that vaccinations would be henceforth required for entry.

Venues affected include The Local, Paddy O’Shea’s, Groovy Schillers, XL, and O’Steak.

Users of the Safe and Sane in Beijing WeChat groups who were out and about last night in SLT reported conflicting experiences, with some saying the venues they visited were not checked, and others having to show their vaccination status to gain entry.

To date we have no evidence that it is a blanket policy, and it seems to only affect stand-alone restaurant/bars in the SLT area and not hotel outlets or venues in larger malls.

So far we have not seen any details on how this might affect those that are deemed medically unfit to receive the vaccine, nor whether this means a blanket ban on children, most of whom have not yet been eligible for the shots.

Those who were vaccinated in Beijing with domestic vaccines can easily access proof of their vaccination through the Beijing Health Kit. For those with foreign vaccines, it may be time to start carrying around physical proof with you when going out, if available.

In a WeChat post sent this morning, The Local made the unequivocal statement that “unvaccinated customers will not be allowed entry. This is a strict policy, and will be enforced indefinitely.”
