Stuck at home and feeling bored? Sure, you could definitely convince yourself that you’re going to spend the extra time you have on your hands working on major cleaning projects, but let’s be real: the reality is you are probably going to sit on the couch and watch some movies.
So, to ensure you make your movie nights as outstanding as possible, I talked to some Beijing residents and asked about some of their favorite movie recommendations.
This is one of Michelle Yeoh’s most amazing
screen performances where she plays an aging Chinese immigrant who must utilize
her newfound powers to fight bizarre dangers from the multiverse.
From David, a Beijing resident of seven years: “Michelle Yeoh’s performance
slayed all the way through the entire movie. I’ve never seen a movie
where time-hopping sci-fi themes tie in with traditional Chinese
culture so wonderfully. I like that in this movie the director gives
movie fans scenes that remind them of legendary director Stanley Kubrick
and action movie star Jackie Chan."
This is a superhero movie that's based on the DC Comics character Batman. Sure, it's the upteenth time the character has been portrayed on screen in a reboot, but it's one of the best ones yet.
“I
would recommend this movie because I am sick and tired of watching same-old superhero movies where the hero always wins,” said Dingding, a
Beijing resident for more than 20 years. “What this film does is it
presents a Batman that has flaws and one that lacks the aura of other
versions. By default, that makes it one of the better Batman movies
because it is more of a detective movie. Robert Pattison also rules, and
the Batman he plays is such a fitting character for him.”
This dark comedy follows two hitmen on the lamb in Belgium, hiding out after a particularly difficult job.
“I
am a bar owner in Beijing and I've always had strong emotions for
beers,” says Hao, who has called the capital home since 2006. "The movie
brought me to the beautiful scenery of Bruges where people spend their
nights chugging down beers. For the main character Ray, going to the pub
for a drink is far more pleasant than enjoying the view of Bruges. I
love movies that have British-style dark humor like this.”
