Our security guard from our Hongqiao Main Campus has left a lot to be admired for his dedicated service to the SCIS community. In our latest Once A Dragon, Always A Dragon series we look at the life of Mr. Fang, our long-time SCIS security guard.
Mr. Fang began work at SCIS in 2005 and spent 16 years ensuring the safety of our campus, students, and staff. We applaud his hard work and consistency over the years and now look forward to celebrating his transition into retirement. We asked Mr. Fang a few questions about his career and future. Here is what he had to say.
Tell us a little about yourself.
I was born and raised in Shanghai, China. I am lucky to have a very happy family, living with my wife and daughter.
Why did you become a security guard?
I decided to become a security guard because it gave me a way to be able to provide for my family. Being a security guard allows me to use my skills in order to ensure the safety of those around me.
If you weren’t a security guard, what would you like to do for a living?
If I was not a security guard, I would have become a policeman.
What is the most important part of your job?
I have the very special job of making sure that our campus at SCIS is safe and secure. When I can ensure that the campus is a safe place, then I know the students and staff are also safe.
How long have you been a SCIS employee?
I began working at SCIS in 2005 and have been with the school for sixteen years.
What is your favorite thing about coming to work every day?
My favorite part about coming to work is being able to be very active. Since my job requires me to ensure the safety and security of the campus, I must walk around a lot to observe different areas of the grounds. It is nice to be able to be outside and move around throughout my day.
What will you miss most about the SCIS community?
What I will miss most about the SCIS community is all the people. My colleagues, administrators, students, teachers, and everyone else. They are the people that made my time at SCIS so special and made each day something to look forward to.
What do you plan on doing next?
I look forward to enjoying my retirement life. It will be nice to be able to have time with family and rest.
Thank you, Mr. Fang, for your long-term dedication to our campus and community. We wish you the best as you enter a new season of life. Remember, once a dragon, always a dragon.
