Our students took part in an RUOK Workshop to learn more about mental health and how they can do their part to help themselves and others. Here is what they had to say.
I signed up for the workshop because I’m passionate about the topic of mental health. My overall impression of the turnout and content of the workshop is positive. I think it was a great chance for me to revisit some familiar ideas, but to also open my eyes to fresh perspectives (especially with how individuals should approach and follow-up with those in need.
Pinkgua Mao, Grade 10 Student
The 4 steps outlined in the program were a simple and effective reminder on how to have an active discussion about depression and mental health.
Genie Jun, Grade 11 Student
As part of their unit on realism, the Grade Nine Drama class held a staged reading of a play that dealt with teenage depression. They connected with the SCIS community by presenting their work to a group of students who attended the RUOK workshop led by Lifeline, a partner organization specializing in suicide prevention.
