ACROSS THE BORDER by Yu Bogong A mobile camp moves around in the city, stops for some time, and communicates with people, just as nomads do. The performance is designed to reproduce the nomadic spirit to respond to the mental predicament and stress the social beings currently face, for it is such difficult conditions that shift our focus to “nomadism” (equality, temperance, harmony, and nature), in this case the harmony between man and nature.
With the city as classroom and nomadic practice as courses, as well as the interaction and growth in the process, the imagination is mutually inspired. While following the itinerary of nature-community-city-nature, we wish to experience the transition from environment (nature) to awareness (free will) and to action (mobile loca for exchange and communication). A mechanism for exchange runs across the city, connecting the motility from both ways so as to break the boundary.
Wherever we are, in the city or in the countryside, there is an urge in us to return to “nature”, stretch our imagination, identify and construct the world around us from a natural perspective so as to unlock the potential lying within. We are to embrace a better, sustainable cycle of material, life and spirit in this performance based on social practice. We contribute to our society this dynamic structure as well as the concepts and experience gained in the social practice. Go across the boundary for more extensive connection Strive for consensus in mobile dialoguesHead for an interconnected whole while engaged in individual practice and action 于伯公《移动的学院》Yu Bogong | Mobile Academy

This installation features compacted sheep manure, leftover of nomadic life, as metabolizable fuel. The warmth derived from such property is consolidated into part of everyday nomadic life. How to build a sustainable and positive relation with nature and the Other is always worth reconsidering.

Along with the evolution of human history and civilization, this pattern of culture has offered the world a different cultural perspective. With a dynamic structure, it is in an ongoing process of changing or crossing the established boundary. The contemporary aspect of nomadism, in the overwhelming context of globalization, has penetrated our daily life and led to structures with differentiated values, which may help to restructure the world. To an individual, mobile physical experience and sense-based perception are very important in breaking the conventional cognitive pattern. The contemporary practice in nomadism covers a wide range, from history and culture to nature and life style, in which field, everyone has unique experience and understanding. This art project brings different individual events together to show the possible values of the contemporary nomadic structure. The artists to be invited will choose freely when and where to carry out this “Nomad” project. Any medium is acceptable, including but not limited to painting, sculpture, installation, performance, video, sound, music, dance, etc. The place can be everywhere, no matter it is a prairie, a desert, a mountainous region, a city, or even the cyberspace. “Go Nomadic Together” is intended as an open “nomadic” art experiment and a collection of individual cases as well .
