2012年3月，刘耀华开始以艺术的名义向他人收集“垃圾”，他请别人送一件自认为是“垃圾”的东西给他，并表示最终会在画廊或美术馆进行展览，经过三个月的时间，共收到来自二百六十多人形形色色的“垃圾”。迄今为止，这些“垃圾”已被他保存了将近10年，本次展览结束后（也是这些“垃圾”的首次公开展览），这些“垃圾”将被全部丢弃到垃圾场填埋。

Since the beginning of March 2012, Liu Yaohua has been collecting "junk" from others in the name of art, asking people to send him an object they consider to be "junk" and saying that it will eventually be exhibited in a gallery or art museum. Over a period of three months, he received more than 260 pieces of "junk" of all shapes and sizes. So far, he has kept this "rubbish" for almost 10 years, and after this exhibition—which is also the first public exhibition of this "rubbish", Liu Yaohua will throw all this "rubbish" into the landfill.

This was the first piece of work I created in the name of art.

那段时间，除了有些人断断续续根据网络上发布的项目信息跟我联系，将自己的“垃圾”寄给我之外，我还持续在日常生活中向不同身份的人索要一件“垃圾”，每人一件，并请他们在自己的“垃圾”上签上名字和日期。然后我将收来的“垃圾”一件件进行拍照、登记、打包，并且贴上标签入库保管。按照最初的设想，这些“垃圾”的展出才标示作品在创作环节上的完成，不知不觉十年过去了，这些“垃圾”终于展出，这件作品也算是完成了。

During that time, apart from some people who contacted me intermittently to send me their " garbage " according to the project information posted on the internet, I continued to ask people in different capacities for a piece of "garbage" in my daily life, one for each person, and asked them to sign and date their "garbage." I ask them to sign and date their garbage. I then photographed, registered, packed, and labeled each piece of 'garbage' I received and put it into storage. The original idea was that the display of the rubbish would mark the completion of the creative process. Somehow ten years have passed, and the work is finally on display and complete.

我甚至曾想象要在未来建成一座世界性的垃圾博物馆，这座垃圾博物馆将面向来自全球的任何人开放，无论你是谁，来自哪里，都可以选择一件自己认为是“垃圾”的东西，作为这座博物馆的藏品。听起来简直是一个相当有野心的计划，当然，这在现实中几乎是不可能实现的。

I even imagine that there will be a world museum of garbage in the future, which will be open to anyone from all over the world, whoever and wherever they are from. They will choose an object that they consider to be "garbage" for the museum's collection. Sounds like a rather ambitious project? Of course, in reality, it would be almost impossible to achieve.

这个本子是一名来自山东济南21岁的大三女学生寄过来的。本子里的内容都是情书，是她当时的男朋友与前女友之间的通信。男朋友和她在一起后把这些东西交给她处理，她就送给了我。

A 21-year-old junior female student from Jinan, Shandong Province, sent this book to me. The book's contents are love letters correspondence between her current boyfriend and her ex-girlfriend. The boyfriend gave them to her to dispose of after he got together with her, and she then gave them to me.

这件绿色T恤是Amanda的遗物。是来自西安的一名女工程师聂硕寄来的。她是Amanda的朋友，Amanda生前是西安市儿童福利院海星寄养之家的创始人和负责人。在西安的7年时间里，168名病残孤儿在海星之家寄养并得到手术救助，其中83名被各个国家的父母收养，2012年年初，Amanda身患癌症，7月14日离开人世，这是她生前常穿的一件衣服。聂硕告诉我说，她希望看到它的人能够感受到更多的希望和爱，希望这件绿色T恤能够将Amanda的爱传递下去，让更多需要帮助的人得到有效的帮助，也想让天堂的Amanda知道，我们永远怀念她！

This green T-shirt is Amanda's legacy. It was sent by Nie Shuo, a female engineer from Xi'an. She was a friend of Amanda's, the founder and director of the Starfish Foster Home at the Xi'an Children's Welfare Institute before she died. During her seven years in Xi'an, 168 sick and disabled orphans were fostered and surgically assisted at the Starfish Home, 83 of whom were adopted by parents from various countries. In early 2012, Amanda was stricken with cancer and passed away on July 14, and this was a piece of clothing she used to wear during her lifetime. Nie Shuo told me that she hoped that those who saw it would feel more hope and love, that this green T-shirt would pass on Amanda's love so that more people in need would receive practical help, and that she wanted Amanda in heaven to know that she is always missed!

一个来北京打工的云南人，他在云南生活了二十多年，以前从来没有出过远门，他初到北京，在一家云南菜馆做厨师，这个行李箱是他来北京时带来的，轮子坏掉了，不要了，他计划过年回家再买个新的。

A Yunnan person who came to Beijing to work had lived in Yunnan for over twenty years and had never been out of the area before. He had first arrived in Beijing and worked as a cook in a Yunnan cuisine restaurant. This suitcase was brought with him when he came to Beijing, the wheels broke and he didn't want it, he planned to go home in the New Year and buy a new one.

“这些名片是我收拾家的时候翻出来的，其中一些人目前还有联系，还有一些曾经有过短暂的业务往来，其余的我都不认识，不知道是怎么来的。反正，我现在都不需要它们了。”

"These business cards were turned up when I was packing up my home; some of them are still in contact at the moment, others had a brief business relationship, the rest I don't recognize and don't know how they came about. Anyway, I don't even need them now."

“这是我以前的暂住证，第一张证已经不知去向，只记得是大学时候办的，那时还是蓝皮的，直到办这个证我才知道暂住证也是有级别的，这个橙皮本是我的第一个B本，它记录了我在北京的一段时光，也记录了曾经住过的地方。”

"This is my old temporary residence permit; the first one is nowhere to be found. I only remember getting it when I was at university when it was still blue-skinned. I didn't know there were levels of temporary residence permits until I got this one. This orange-skinned book was my first B-book. It recorded a period of my time in Beijing and the places I had lived."

“这是什么？我也不知道！买它的时候只是觉得‘挺艺术’，拿回家才发现哪儿都没有它的立足之地，我就一直让它躺在柜子里。一个没有立足之地的设计，就算它是一件艺术品，也失去了人们欣赏的可能性。或者我根本没有发现它可以安置的方式。至少现在，在我看来是一件垃圾！”

"What is this? I don't know! When I bought it I thought it was 'quite artistic,' but when I got it home, I realized there was no place for it anywhere, so I left it lying in the cupboard. Even if it is a work of art, a design that has no place loses the possibility of being appreciated. Or maybe I simply haven't found a way to place it. For now, at least, it looks like a piece of junk to me!"

“My chosen piece of garbage is a plastic label from around a Coco Cola bottle.

Next to all associations with the corporate world, pop art, global economy, and health risk related to the world wide sofa consumption this piece of garbage also signifies my personal consumption of Coca Cola. Outside the highly hygienic West I drink Coca Cola mainly for medical purposes, as it kills all germs. A friend of my told me that he put a piece of chicken inside a full Coca Cola bottle for a week and it got ‘digested’ by the soda.”

“这是以前居住美国时订阅的杂志。十多年前来中国生活，还继续订着，每个月都从美国寄来。这一本是6年前的，居然还留着。其实现在我很少真的读它了，而且都有电子杂志了，并没必要一直续订或保留。一直想取消订阅，低碳一点，但一直没做到。对我的意义也许在于，还有某样东西没变，是以前的生活的一种延续。”

"This is a magazine that I used to subscribe to when I lived in the US. I came to live in China over ten years ago and continue to subscribe, sending it from the US every month. This one is six years old, and I can't believe I still have it. I rarely actually read it anymore, and with all the e-zines out there, there's no need to keep renewing or keeping the subscription. Always wanted to cancel the subscription and go low carbon a bit, but never did. What it means to me maybe is that there is still something that hasn't changed, a continuation of the life that used to be there."

这个空纸盒是少坤给我的，上面有她的签名，她也是一位艺术家，几年前她已经去世了。

This empty cardboard box was given to me by Shao Kun and is signed by her, who was also an artist and who passed away a few years ago.

刘耀华

出生于山西霍州，经过五年小学、五年初中、五年高中、五年大学的学习，2008年毕业于长安大学建筑系，获建筑学学士学位。先后从事过建筑师、艺术家助手、杂志编辑和艺术项目策划及统筹的工作。他的作品涵盖多种媒介，主要倾向于艺术在观念维度的延展和发掘。此外，他还于2018年创办“一件作品”公众号，并自主发起和策划了一些艺术项目。
