Prof. Maskin
Prof. Cardwell
Prof. Kelman
Prof. Lio'
Prof. Foley
Prof. Torr
Prof. Melhuish
Prof. Burke-White
哈佛大学博士,本科;

The following is a selection of the highlights of the speeches.
I'd like to offer my congratulations to all the winners of paper awards and the schools where those students come from. Receiving this award proves that you have thought about an important question and worked on it seriously and creatively. Perhaps for some of you, it's the first time you have done real research. I hope that getting this award will stimulate you to think about continuing on a research path, and perhaps eventually to become a professional scientist or innovator.
——Prof. Maskin
Nobel Laureate in Economy
University Professor, Harvard University
Fellow, National Academy of Sciences
Fellow, American Academy of Arts and Science
First of all, a very warm welcome to the 2022 Global Academician Forum. It's my great pleasure to speak to you at this prestigious event. I'm David Cardwell. I'm Professor of superconducting engineering at the University of Cambridge. I'm also provised chancellor with responsibility for strategy and planning.
To finish, what I'd like to do is to give you some very broad advice. To innovation research, it's about just much more than you. It's not about getting top marks in every subject. You're gonna need other skills. You're gonna need to be able to communicate your work. You're going to be able to work as part of a team. You're going to have ethics, and you're going to have to acknowledge work in the field by the form of references. So be open-minded. Work with your colleagues or classmates, not against them. Together, you will be stronger than you would be on your own.
——Prof. Cardwell
FREng, Full Professor,
Former Head of School of Engineering,
University of Cambridge
I want to start off by giving congratulations to all the winners here today who are getting awards for your papers and also the international schools whose students are represented here.
In terms of advice to you, my first and in terms of choosing an area of research, is choose something you are interested and care about, fascinated about. Don't choose research as a career unless you really care about doing it. Choose topics you are interested in and try to choose topics where you can help society and help other people through your research. I've always tried to do all that in my research.
——Prof. Kelman
Chaired Professor, Harvard University
Fellow, National Academy of Public Administration
I wish you to develop three virtues. One is the curiosity, because the curiosity brings interdisciplinarity. The other is passion, because the patient will bring a scientific, meticulous behavior. The fact that you, you are really following facts and you are showing a very strict ethical concern about, judging the both are the information that you are investigating. And then a strong willingness to contribute to society.
——Prof. Lio'
MAE, Full Professor, University of Cambridge
Many congratulations to all the winners who have received awards. These are great achievements, both for you individually and for the teachers and schools that supported you. Prices are great rewards for what you have achieved, but they are also a precious opportunity to think about how you have come this far and how to go further. Still, looking forward, you can think how best to work seriously and creatively, how to overcome difficulties and challenges, how to grasp opportunities, and how to be inquisitive about all around you.
——Prof. Foley
FBA, Chaired Professor, University of Cambridge
And, before I finish, I guess I'd like to give some words of advice. So probably the most important thing, or the most difficult thing, in your life, is actually to determine what the goal of your life is. What do you actually want to do? Um, once you've decided upon that, you can work out the steps together. Obviously don't want to make it unachievable, but if it's a realistic goal, you can then talk to great mentors, identify them and work out the steps to get there.
But it's always good to have something that you're aiming and but don't be afraid as you go on that journey to adapt. The main thing is to know where you're going. But as a river might change course sometimes to get to the sea, you might also keep that idea that you'll be adaptable as well. So yeah, I think determine your goal in life, and then think how to get there. Think ahead for where you want to be in five years, ten years, 15 years and 20 years, and make sure that you review it periodically.
——Prof. Torr
FREng, Full Professor, University of Oxford
So I will talk a little about innovation. And I think it is important for young people to realize its importance and to think how they can become more innovative. We can find a range of characteristics to separate innovators from the rest of the population. Overwhelmingly, the most consistently found characteristic of innovators is persistence. A persistent attitude is one of the characters who stand in the greatest elevators. It is defined as continuously striving and committing to goals regardless of immediate rewards. It is one of the most critical of creative attitudes. Innovators also are passionate about and committed to the goals which compels them to persist most physically and mentally. They never quit continuing, even when they experience challenges, setbacks and failures. This is one of the biggest differences between innovators and non innovative.
——Prof. Melhuish
FAcSS, Full Professor, University of Oxford
So I would urge you, as your thinking whether as an educator or as a student, to do a couple of things. The 1st thing is learn your field well, master it. But your 2nd step is to then broaden your horizons. Come at it from a new perspective, choose a new discipline to learn more about and see the world through multiple prisms at once. Your 3rd step, I would urge you, is to orient yourself toward a problem Think about what it is in the world that you think most needs change. The 4th thing I would say is there never a wrong answer. Some ideas are better than others, and you'll need to explore them.
And look the schools that want awards today, the students who want awards today and even those that didn't win but are competing for them. You are already engaging in creative thought. You're already learning how to innovate as a thinker, and I encourage you to keep doing it. Conferences like this that bring together scholars that share ideas across disciplines that's where innovative thinking lies, and that's what will make you not just a good student today but someone truly changing the world in the years ahead.
