编者按：

本篇是 “设计基础课” 的最后一期。作为课程总结，作者的思维与陈述延续了前两篇 “洗练、精审、敏识” 之调性，同时，在简要的表述之外，预留空间，引领我们结合个人经历，生发感悟与联想，以此，内观己心，外察世界。

连续三期的分享，对于「三声」编辑来说，也是一个不断校对、整理、润稿及深度学习的过程。虽繁复，但欣慰，因不间断有读者通过不同方式，予以反馈，某种程度促使我们今天，将开篇的关键字设定为：诠释 (interpreation) 。的确，无论何种艺术，若无人的体味，只不过是个艺术制造物（artifact），缺乏社会学层面的意义与价值。实质上，正因艺术品和观者、诠释者之间不断的对话，存在的意义才可能被不断的揭示。借用德国文艺评论家、教授姚斯（Hans Robert Jauss）1967年提出的批评理论——接受美学（reception aesthetics）”，即肯定读者或观众，在艺术品接受与体验中的作用力，这一力量，无形中给予作品一种“期待视野”。

Design Fundamentals
设计基础

In order to address the students' need for a good introduction to the course, I would like to recommend teaching them the fundamentals of design, ( which every designer needs to grasp ), at the outset of studies.

为促进学生对该课程的深入理解，我建议向他们传授最为关键的设计基础知识，（事实上，这也是每一个设计师都必须掌握的知识），在开展学业之初。

The fundamentals of design are thinking tools, which enable students to

- structure, explore and expand their intial ideas,

- be in a better position to steer the entire design process by knowing how to discriminate and make more accurate decisions during the planning stages.

设计基础是为思考的工具，协助学生：

- 建构、探索以及扩展他们的初步设想，

- 理解如何在规划阶段，以鉴别力，做出更为精准的决策，从而更好的控制整个设计过程。

I would also like to emphasize that these skills are points of orientation which should be directly encoutered and understood through guided hands-on exploration (project work), rather than presentation as pure information to be read, learned and tested.

需要强调的是，这些技能是为某种取向点/导向点（pionts of orientation），有必要通过引导性的动手实践予以探索（比如：主题性创作），从而直接领会、理解这些技能。若仅由阅读、学习和测试某些纯信息化的资料（以取得知识），显然不足以达成。

I suggest that this tuition should be the content of the first semester projects, in this way, a more directed professionalism will be evident in finished project work with will serve to build self confidence.

此类传授，我建议，将其设制为第一学期的课业内容。如此，在完成的专题作品中，将赋有针对性与专业性，这将有助于信心的建立。

Research

The field of jewellery as such, is diverse, ranging from ethnic/tradtional adornment to contempoary fashion pieces, to one-off "authoer jewellery". Apart from meseums, galleries, libaries, bookshops and online sources Hong Kong itself is rich in inspirational impluses. As future design-professionals, students need encouragement to do more extensive research and to understand research as an ongoing necessity.

研究

首饰涉及的领域或门类，非常多元：从民族或传统饰物，至当下的时尚产品，再到专门性的 “创作人首饰” （author jewellery）。除博物馆，艺术馆，图书馆，书店和在线资源外，香港本身（该文初草于香港，编者注）也有很多鼓舞人心的成就。作为未来的设计专业人士，学生需要鼓励，以促进更广泛的研究，并将 “研究” 理解为一种持续存在的必要。

关于 " 研究 "：

实地考察（Field Research）的教学图像文本：记录了
在德国西南部莱茵河谷附近的黑森林地区，

青年学子在导师指导下，
利用丛林中俯拾皆是的天然材质（树枝、泥浆、石块...），
自建了一个基于特定场域（site-specific）的装置作品，
目的在于更深入的理解某些设计要因，比如：

重力、平衡、物性、力矩等 ...

从一个侧面提醒我们: 基于动手的实践,
换言之 , 让你的双手变脏 !（Get your hands dirty!）

令观察与审思共时协作，
从而更深入的探索与反思人与自然、物理世界互为共生的方式。

Presentation

Apart from the material value and good design, craftsmanship is a major inducement to buy jewellery. Attention to detail, finish and presentation of project work are essential elements of a design course, which must not be neglected in favour of additional projects. Through being allowed the time to become more deeply involved in these most essential aspects, students will benefit by being able to demonstrate that they know to make the best of their own and show that they aim for the best quality.

呈现

除材料价值与精良设计外，工艺品质亦是购买首饰的主要诱因。注重细节，完成度和最终呈现是为设计学科的表达根本，同时，也是为完成其他项目，所不能被忽视的要因。在时间允许的情况下，更深入地参与到这些要因中来，学生方能证明自己，做到最好是为可能，继而显示他们诉求上层品质的决心，从而真正的，（从扎实的设计基础教育中）获益。
