Harrison Forman showed Rosholt how to shoot pictures with the latter's new Leica. In a letter Rosholt wrote to Tess Johnston, Rosholt recalled that: "He (Forman) had a light meter which he waived around a minute and told me to set my camera at 6.3 and 100. I never changed this setting when outdoors." (Rosholt's camera settings: aperture of f6.3 and a shutter speed of one hundredth of a second).

After graduation from St. Olaf he went to Shanghai, China, and worked as a journalist on The China Press.

Jacquinot Zone

He lectured for several years around the United States, finally moving to San Francisco in 1941, where he worked for the China News Service. In 1942 he was commissioned a first lieutenant ion the U.S. Army Air Corps and he returned to China where he was attached to the 14th Air Force during World War II. With his knowledge of China and the Chinese language, he served as a liaison officer in the field with the Chinese armies. He was discharged in December 1945 with the rank of major. After World War II he became an active member of the Flying Tigers of the 14th Air Force Association. For many years he was the editor of the Pictorial, the organization's newsletter.
