Special Session on Responsible Management and Youth Development Education --- Youth Responsible Management and Development Education Academic Speech Contest

Dear Madam / Sir,

Under the guidance of China-ASEAN Environmental Cooperation Center and the Center for Environmental Education and Communications of Ministry of Ecology and Environment as well as the great support from Education Forum for Asia and Ecological Development Union International, Chinese higher education institutions have responded to the Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) initiated by the United Nations Global Compact and the Carbon Neutral Science Technology and Innovation Action Plan for Higher Education released by the Ministry of Education in July 2021, and have therefore launched the 1st Youth Responsible Management and Development Education Academic Speech Contest. This event has received great engagement and support from many universities, colleges, businesses, social organizations and media. Co-hosted by Changzhou University and Beijing Technology and Business University, and supported by many co-organizing institutions including: Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School, International Business School Suzhou at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, Shenzhen Finance Institute (CUHK-SZ), School of Design of South China University of Science and Technology, Beijing Institute of Technology-Zhuhai, Polus International College, China Sustainability Tribune, Corporate Citizenship in Action, Green Light-Year, Hainan ShengDian Information Technology Co., Ltd., this event, with invited professors and experts from Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tsinghua University, Peking University, Renmin University of China, Central University of Finance and Economics, Nanjing University, Tongji University, Zhejiang University, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, China Global Philanthropy Institute, Sichuan University, Beijing University of Technology, is organized as a Special Session on Responsible Management and Youth Development Education at the Education Forum for Asia 2021 Annual Conference to be held from September 18-19, 2021 in Chengdu, China. This Special Session, organized in a hybrid pattern with both online and onsite speeches, will provide keynote speeches by senior experts as well as a youth speech contest to illustrate the meaning and significance of responsible management education and sustainable development.

As an active response to the Chinese government’s strategy on building up Eco-Civilization and the UNGC’s Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME), more than 40 Chinese universities and colleges launched together the China Academic Committee for Responsible Management Education on May 28, 2021 in Changzhou University. The establishment of the China Academic Committee for Responsible Management Education aims to promote the UN Sustainable Development Goals by vigorously promoting China's higher education transformation, eagerly developing responsible management leaders with a strong sense of social responsibility and interdisciplinary competencies with an international perspective, in order to successfully support transformation of Chinese business and society towards sustainable development.

With great support from Dr. Wang Yao, the Senior Secretary-General of Education Forum for Asia, the Special Session on Responsible Management and Youth Development Education is included for the first time in the Education Forum for Asia Annual Conference. In particular, this special Session is receiving great support from Dr. Jinghui Liu, former Secretary-General of China Scholarship Council, Prof. Feng Jia, Director of Center for Environmental Education and Communications of Ministry of Ecology and Environment, Prof. Guomei Zhou, Director-General of China-ASEAN Environmental Cooperation Center of Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People’s Republic of China, Prof. Qun Chen, Chairman of Changzhou University, Prof. Liutang Gong, the Vice President of Beijing Technology and Business University, Mrs. Xiaopeng An, Vice Chairwoman of Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School, Prof. Mette Morsing, Global Head of PRME of United Nations Global Compact, Prof. Mohan Munasinghe, Vice-Chairman of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and Co-Winner of the Nobel Prize in 2007 and Winner of the 2021 Blue Planet Prize, Prof. Gerhard Stahl, former Secretary-General of the Regional Commission of the European Union, and Prof. Danica Purg, President of the Alliance of Management Development Associations of Global Rising Economies, Dr. David Ness, Chairman of the Board of Ecological Development Union International, Mrs. Qin Zhang, Executive President & Secretary-General of UNESCO Hong Kong Association and many other distinguished experts. Apart from these, this event has also received great encouragement and support from Prof. Ilian Mihov, Chair of PRME Steering Committee of United Nations Global Compact and Dean of INSEAD, Mr. Paulo Speroni, PRME Coordinator of Student Leadership & Innovation, Ms. Dinah Bennett, OBE, Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and the Institute of Higher Education in UK, Dr. Margo Thomas, Founder and CEO of Women’s Economic Imperative, Prof. Tom Kvan, Dean of School of Design of South China University of Science and Technology, Dr. Xiaoyi Liao, 2006 Green China Figure and Winner of Sophie Prize.

Through the discussion of programs to promote education for sustainable development, we will further deepen exchanges and cooperation among countries in the field of education and usher in a new era of connectivity in the field of responsible management education.
